A new artificial intelligence (AI) platform aims to support the efforts from Medical Home Network to support care access for marginalized or vulnerable patient populations in light of the coronavirus pandemic, the managed care organization (MCO) said in an emailed announcement.

The platform, hosted by ClosedLoop.ai, will sift through patient demographic data already stored by Managed Home Network, an MCO in Cook County, Illinois. Specifically, the platform will help flag the social determinants of health that will make it hard for MCO beneficiaries to access essential health services, such as testing and treatment, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Extensive patient outreach will be essential to ensuring marginalized or vulnerable patient populations are able to access testing, treatment, and other resources in light of the coronavirus pandemic, experts agree. Members who are homeless, who do not have access to transportation, or who experience other social determinants of health barring them from care access will need an assist during the pandemic.
