Our dynamic, rapidly growing company in a vibrant downtown Chicago setting is seeking a full-time intern for our Marketing and Operations team. The position will report to the Marketing Manager. This is an opportunity to be a part of a unique and exciting organization.

Marketing and Communications are important functions of the MHN MarComm team and MoreCare Ops team. This full-time internship will give the selected candidate the opportunity to engage in activities supporting marketing, communications, public relations, competitive strategy, health plan operations, compliance and partnership initiatives within MHN and MoreCare (a wholly owned subsidiary of MHN). This is a one year internship with the intent to provide a truly meaningful opportunity to the intern.

Although the role is preferred for full-time, we will consider part-time of 28 hours or more per week for those currently in a Masters program.

Primary functions of the internship include:

  • Develop strategic communication strategies to help specific audiences connect with the story
  • Assist in managing relations with external PR firm(s) to maximize opportunities for MHN exposure
  • Create and maintain online content (i.e., website, LinkedIn)
  • Assist in developing and delivering health plan marketing and operations activities including, but not limited to, member communciations, network engagement , content development and campaign strategy
  • Work alongside direct supervisor in developing and executing enterprise marketing strategy and brand awareness
  • Industry research of specific companies and products, including searches for associated news, whitepapers, speeches, events, demos, videos, etc. and comparable/related companies and products
  • Assist in designing and developing messaging for network trainings, company presentations and award submissions
  • Initiate new marketing, PR and storytelling approaches through creative mediums
  • Assisting with the creation and editing of internal and external communications materials
  • Presenting work product on a regular basis to direct supervisor
  • “Shadow” direct supervisor in day-to-day strategy, partnership, and marketing activities (at the discretion of the direct supervisor)
  • Assist in project activities of direct supervisor, as needed and as appropriate
  • Assist in any ad hoc requests made by other MHN team members (through direct supervisor), as needed and as appropriate

Expected Competencies:

  • Significant knowledge related to digital marketing strategy, deployment and execution, including comfort with standard softwares
  • Interest in healthcare, public policy and addressing disparities in access across Chicago
  • Experience with graphic design, campaign development and editing (InDesign, etc)
  • Experience reading and interpreting regulatory documents and public policy a plus
  • Knowledge of content management systems
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Excellent writing skills for a variety of mediums; including put not limited to: grant proposals, award submissions, presentation abstracts, press releases, and B2C content such as brochures.
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Interest in operations and compliance as it relates to marketing’s function within overall business strategy
  • Strong ability and desire to collaborate, share ideas and creatively problem solve
  • Ability to thoroughly conduct, synthesize, and present research; ability to extrapolate and produce well-supported assessments/recommendations
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
  • Interest in Healthcare, marketing and communication
  • Must possess excellent computer skills, particularly with all Microsoft Office suite of applications, including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Excellent attention to detail and affinity for process management/improvement
  • Ability to deal personably and effectively with a variety of people, including senior leadership, healthcare professionals, and ancillary clinic/hospital personnel
  • Ability to work effectively and accomplish tasks in a team environment
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work under deadlines


The preferred candidate is currently enrolled in a Master’s Program for Healthcare, Public Policy or Marketing related field, but will consider candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts, Business, Marketing or related field.
